  1. Aquariums at the Marlins ball park, is it fish abuse

Marlins stadium comissioned 2 aquariums to be built behind home plate in the miami stadium.
the aquariums were built by In Living Color and are said to withstand the effects of balls being hurled at the aquariums.

The aquariums can withstand the balls being hurtled at them, but the fish inside will still be subjected to the vibrations of the jumping up and down as well as the noise from the balls possibly hitting the tanks.

activists are claiming that this is fish abuse and that infact it will cause the fish stress.

    what do you all think?

as for me, i know that you should never even tap on the glass because it stresses the fish, i can not imagine what screaming fans, vibrations and ball being thrown at the glass would do to them

  2. Saltwater Aquarium Problems

I have been saltwater aquarium keeping for a while now, and just when you think you have reached "nirvana" with your tank, all of a sudden boom things go wrong.

i have had everything from Aiptasia blooms, i am not talking a few aiptasis here and there, i am talking about an alien inavsion of aiptasia in my aquarium. i have tried to aiptasia x them, but as quickly as i get rid of one another one blooms.

i have also had salinity issues, difficulty in keeping my salt level good, turns out my hydrometer was no good.

my light bulb cracked and then turns out my ballast was shot.

all in all though i absolutely love this hobby, so even with all of the hiccups i will still be a saltwater hobbyist and of course a MarineGeek!Click image for larger version

  3. Adventures of reefkeeping

i had always had a freshwater tank, and i did very good, i decided i wanted to go with a saltwater aquarium, after all how hard could it be?

well from the begining all i got was bad advice. i did not have a very good LFS so i ended up with the wrong fish and the wrong lights for corals and, i ended up having to start from scratch.

i was lucky enough to get some interesting information online, and i managed to find a LFS that finally helped me, the sad part is they went under, so it is forums like this that give me most of the infor i need.

  4. meeting Brett Raymer not what i expected

i went to macna 2011, and i was on of the guys who was on forums trashing the show, tanked, and what it did not show and how the portrayal was wrong, blah blah blah, well then i saw him at the marinegeek.com booth and without going into detail, i listened to what he had to say, and i was surprised, he made a lot of sense, but so did Victoria, she stated it from both side of the equation, talking about failing retail stores, and pointing out that those of us who are in the hobby are in the hobby, but we as hobbyists are not enough to sustain the LFS, especially when we as hobbyists do our own fragging etc. So new blood is needed for this hobby to thrive. i thought i was passionate about this hobby but she proved to be more so.

she was polite, and expressed it as her opinion and her opinion only. she stood beside Brett as a loyal partner, but it was more her willingness to listen to my side, and understanding that where i was coming from had merit.

    i really enjoyed ...
